Malala Fund and Gulmakai Network

The Gulmakai Network is a global project carried out within the scope of the Malala Fund. Within this network, various educational advocates from countries are selected as champions and the efforts of these local advocates for girls' education are supported by the fund. IGAM’s President, Metin Çorabatır was chosen as the champion of education in Turkey in 2018.

Malala Yousafzai was born in 1997 in Pakistan. Malala, then a 12-year-old girl, wrote for the BBC using the name "Gulmakai" describing what happening in Pakistan. In the meantime the Taliban published statements against girls' school attendance. After finishing medical treatment for having been shot in the head by Taliban militants, Malala together with her father decided to advocate for  the right to education for girls world wide and established the Malala Fund. Malala is the youngest person to receive the Nobel Peace Prize in 2017, for her work to support the participation of girls in education.
